GTA 6 won't let you progress through the story if you're too broke, which will force Jason and Lucia to make some cash from side jobs or other definitely legal endeavors.
If there's one thing the trailers and gameplay footage of GTA 6 have told us, it's that there's going to be a lot of robbing in it. Nearly every single piece of footage has featured Jason and Lucia holding someone up at gunpoint, getting cash and living large. Safe to say, it'll be a major part of the upcoming open-world game.
GTA 6 open world robberies are insanely detailed and one of the most important activities in the game, including robbing banks in the open world. Here are the highlights- Making money outside of missions is an important part of the game, and is no longer completely separate… pic.twitter.com/Q40eSXitsTAugust 31, 2026
YouTuber TGG (via Twitter user Synthpotato) saw gameplay at Rockstar Games and went into detail about how the robbery system works. This includes word that every store in the game is able to be robbed, and that unlike the convenience store holdups found in GTA 5, there will be unique robberies depending on what type of store you are robbing, with factors like CCTV and hostages to be worried about. They also note that much of the robbery footage shown in the extended look was open-world footage rather than bespoke missions.
Perhaps more interestingly, they report that at some points in the game's story, you will be stopped from progressing until your bank account is full enough to access it, while there's no word for what reason you'll need the cash to even participate in the mission, you will not be able to keep the story going if you're broke.
But even with the lockout, it's pretty obvious there's going to be a ton of ways to make more money in GTA 6, with the robbery focus being an obvious way. However, we saw in the Netflix gameplay premiere that racing will be a major part of the game too, so if you feel a bit bad about robbing virtual stores all the time, you might be able to be a nicer person and just do illegal street races instead.
Take-Two's GTA 6 leak investigation is heating up as the publisher requests sealed subpoena to avoid tipping off leakers.
