Eren the Southpaw, otherwise known as Eren the Lefthanded, is a 13-episode seasonal anime co-produced by Production I.G. and Signal M.D. as part of the 2026 spring season. It is a mature anime that tells a very human story from two perspectives: an ordinary artist who deserves recognition but fails to receive the attention he deserves, and a genius yet problematic left-handed artist who struggles to find her real place in the world of art.
Since Eren the Southpaw is an art anime, its story revolves around creativity, ambition, and the struggles that come with being an artist. It also has a moody and gritty atmosphere, making its portrayal of the art world feel more realistic and grounded. Coupled with Production I.G. and Signal M.D.’s visuals, the anime offers an incredible viewing experience.
The Terminator franchise receives a new iteration in Terminator Zero, an action and sci-fi anime released in the summer of 2024 on Netflix. Instead of taking place in America, this Production I.G. anime is set in Japan and tells a story divided into two halves. The first follows a Terminator and a woman named Eiko, who travel back in time. Meanwhile, the second half focuses on a brilliant scientist who hopes to prevent Judgment Day by creating an advanced AI named Kokoro.
While Terminator Zero has an ambitious premise, the anime’s execution fails to live up to its full potential. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth watching, as Production I.G. does a remarkable job of delivering polished animation and impressive production values that help mask some of the anime’s shortcomings, particularly its writing.
