XBOX has responded to reports that pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 are “heavily skewed” towards PlayStation and that they’re lagging behind for the new game.
Back in June, Rockstar Games finally answered the biggest burning question in the gaming sphere – what would Grand Theft Auto 6 cost fans? Instead of a rumored base price of $100, Rockstar went with a base price of $79.99, and the Ultimate Edition will set you back $100 instead.
Following on from that, several bits of marketing have come out, with a pretty big focus on PlayStation. The Extended Look at gameplay, which aired on Netflix, was recorded on a PlayStation 5, while a special GTA 6-themed PlayStation controller has also been launched.
Rockstar and Sony have long had a marketing deal, with a few claims that GTA 6 “plays best” on PlayStation with “near-instant” load times.
Additionally, there have been reports from The Verge’s Tom Warren suggesting that the pre-orders for GTA 6 are “heavily skewed” towards Sony’s console.
Matthew Ball, XBOX’s Chief Strategy Officer, hit back at those reports, however, saying XBOX are “very happy” so far.
“Tom, we are very happy with GTA VI pre-orders,” Ball said on X (formerly Twitter). “The title is breaking records for XBOX, we expect even more records will be broken throughout the fall, and our internal analysis shows our share of pre-orders to be matching our share of the console market.”
