Xbox Game Pass Rumor Includes No Day 1 Releases, Ad Tier, And More

Xbox Game Pass Rumor Includes No Day 1 Releases, Ad Tier, And More

Xbox Game Pass has received an incredibly controversial change in recent weeks with the announcement that limitless cloud gaming would be removed from all tiers and instead replaced with a set number of hours depending on your subscription. While the move has already been slammed by players aplenty, a recent rumor suggests an even bigger overhaul is on the way that will affect countless users.

While the rumor should be taken with a grain of salt given the lack of a clear source, Reddit user Motor-Juggernaut9776, who first spotted the Xbox Game Pass leak, did highlight that the more frequently credible leaker NateTheHate backed up the original author by saying they were correct about the price change in late 2025.

According to the rumor initially posted to ResetEra by Slayven, Game Pass will now be split into two tiers, either with ads or without, have a separate subscription for multiplayer which can be optionally added on, and also most notably, see the complete removal of day 1 releases from the service starting sometime between February and April of next year.

While the post does state that the price of Game Pass will be reduced by $3 a month to compensate for the loss of the day 1 access, now at $12.99 a month with ads and $19.99 without, the response to the rumor has already been overwhelmingly negative so far.

Several other notable changes were also included as well such as a discounted family plan and separate online subscription options, with all the price options being the following:

The proposed changes don't come as a complete surprise given that Xbox has dropped some of its biggest offerings, like Call of Duty, from being day-one releases on Game Pass due to the negative impact on sales, which has been a constant complaint from developers over the years.

Even though it makes sense from a sustainability point for the ever-changing service, it's still a shock to imagine Game Pass losing one of its largest selling points. Regardless of whether or not you agree with the changes rumored to come to the platform with the latest leak, it will definitely be a massive hit for countless more players compared to the more niche cloud gaming user base.
