Huh, it seems physical media remains relevant after all.
The official GTA 6 album has been confirmed. Launching on Nov. 20, a day after GTA 6 itself drops on PS5 and Xbox Series X, it will feature 34 artists performing in various genres and come in both vinyl and CD formats, with a special vinyl edition also on offer.
This is in stark contrast to the game itself, which, as things stand, is only available in a digital format, even if you do end up buying a plastic “physical” edition containing nothing more than a code to your digital copy. Rockstar Games hasn’t made any promises to bring us GTA 6 as an actual disc but apparently believes it’s important to put the game’s music on one. Really ironic.
Either way, GTA VI: The Album, as it’s officially called, is currently available for pre-order, with the CD edition coming in cheapest at $19.98. The vinyl will set you back $49.98, whereas the limited edition vinyl—the one with liquid inside it as we saw in the case of The Witcher 3‘s special edition—is being sold for $124.98, or around 45 bucks more than GTA 6‘s standard edition.
There are 34 artists featured on the album from all sorts of genres, but Rockstar highlighted the following songs and performers as the most important ones:
I hope the experience with the sales of this physical medium comes around and tells Rockstar that yes, people still want to own the things they buy. But I’m not holding my breath.
