Yellowstone lasted for five seasons and has since spawned several spinoffs, including prequels and sequels. To date, there are four released spinoffs: 1883, 1923, Marshals, and Dutton Ranch, with 1944 also reportedly in development. So far, Sheridan has not yet publicly responded to Salkin's allegations.
According to the lawsuit, Salkin developed Sovereign Nation, which was described as "a dramatic television series centered on tribal governance, casino-driven economic power, and a modern war over land and development," and submitted the material to Elevate Entertainment in 2016, Sheridan's management company. The company responded to Salkin's pitch, thanking her for the submission but letting her know that Sheridan was "unavailable for TV projects."
Salkin's complaint highlights several alleged similarities between Sovereign Nation and Yellowstone, including "a tribal casino that functions as a center for political and institutional power, the use of trust land, the absence of zoning restrictions, a 99-year lease structure as the concrete mechanism for expansion, and recurring master-plan imagery deployed to dramatize the struggle for territorial control." Yellowstone is a five-season neo-Western drama that centers on the Dutton family and their ranch, the Broken Rock reservation, and land development interests. The lawsuit also states that Yellowstone was greenlit "within months" of her Sovereign Nation pitch.
