November's PS Plus Essential games were revealed earlier this week, and I think it's quite an interesting selection.
That's because all three games offer something completely different. We've got a fairly big-name headliner, a collection of remastered adventures, and a highly-rated indie on our hands.
Dead Island 2 is up first. This punchy sequel combines hyper violent zombie-slaying with tongue-in-cheek storytelling across an apocalyptic Los Angeles.
It's a good laugh — especially if you team up with a couple of friends online — and a solid action romp.
Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered is next on the list, and while Lara Croft's fourth, fifth, and sixth outings are rarely mentioned with the same kind of reverence as her original trilogy, they're still packed with nostalgic platforming goodness.
And last but certainly not least — go and check the review scores — is Monster Train 2. This is a deck-building roguelike full of fantastical creatures, and it's super addictive once you've wrapped your head around the turn-based mechanics.
I get it: some people hear "deck-building" and "roguelike", and they turn away — but there's a reason this hugely expanded sequel is so highly regarded.
