One of Xbox's biggest releases of 2026 isn't actually releasing on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S - it's Blizzard's World of Warcraft: Forever, which is still a PC exclusive launching on November 5th.
That said, we've seen signs that Blizzard might be pushing towards a native Xbox release in the future, as they've implemented native controller support for WoW: Forever meaning it'll be playable on devices like the ROG Xbox Ally.
And, in a recent interview with GamesRadar, World of Warcraft Vice President Holly Longdale appeared to tease that the franchise will end up on Xbox consoles eventually, even if it's not in the immediate future.
I put it to Holly Longdale: Is World of Warcraft: Forever launching as a PC-exclusive a missed opportunity?
"What you just described is really what we're after. Play it wherever you want and, at some point,on whatever you want. But the first leg of that journey is getting gamepads working really well with World of Warcraft, and we thought Forever was the perfect place to start. Looking at where things are going when we hear about Project Helix et cetera, I think platforms will be a bit more ubiquitous," says Longdale.
As you can see, the WoW VP teases Xbox Project Helix in her reply here, suggesting that bringing World of Warcraft to a device that already supports PC games will make things much easier for Blizzard in the future.
Still, she clearly also states that the idea is to eventually allow for World of Warcraft "on whatever you want", and the first step is to implement gamepad support that works "really well". Later in the interview, she also mentions that the work on controllers will allow players "flexibility that I think goes beyond consoles".
We'll have to wait and see what happens, but all signs are pointing towards a future where we'll be playing World of Warcraft on an Xbox console eventually - it might not be the Series X or S, but it should at least be on Project Helix.
