The official Fortnite Twitter account has confirmed out of nowhere that the Kingdom Hearts collaboration is coming to the game “this week”.
As exciting as most of Fortnite’s Override crossovers are, I think I speak for most gamers when I say the Kingdom Hearts collab is the cream of the crop. Considering the Disney of it all, it’s always a surprise to see Sora make his way over into any game that isn’t Kingdom Hearts, with Smash being a prime example of that.
Kingdom Hearts has been rumoured to be coming to Fortnite for quite some time, but it was confirmed alongside the season’s start a few weeks ago. Since then, we’ve just been waiting to find out when exactly the big collab is happening, with many fearing that it’d be towards the end of the whole season. Thank Yen Sid, that’s not the case after all.
Over on the official Fortnite Twitter account, a video was randomly shared that confirms once and for all that Kingdom Hearts and Sora are coming to Fortnite “this week”. We still don’t know what day exactly it’s coming, but the last collab, Mega Man, released on a Thursday, so that’s likely the case here as well.
Alongside confirming the crossover’s release date, the short video also gave us our first proper look at Sora in Fortnite. As the key art revealed, he’s using his Kingdom Hearts 2 design, which can hopefully be changed with some edit styles. Not that I don’t love KH2, but it’d be nice to have a few options.
The trailer also shows the fake Kingdom Key, so I guess that’s what Sora will be getting as his pickaxe after all.
Interestingly, the trailer is also a direct reference to Kingdom Hearts 3’s reveal trailer, which saw Sora picking up Aqua’s Keyblade on the beaches of Destiny Island. Of course, this time it’s the Fortnite Kingdom Key, but it’s still a pretty nice homage. We still don’t know what other Kingdom Hearts goodies the collab has in store, but at least we won’t be waiting long to find out.
