EA seems to have quietly pulled a collection of Mass Effect content for Battlefield 6 just days after it shuttered series developer BioWare.
Battlefield 6 players made a mental note of an incoming Mass Effect collab when themed content was added to cosmetic menus with the launch of Season 5 earlier this month. As captured and shared by fans across social media, the previously locked crossover collection featured some sci-fi weaponry, a Normandy ship weapon charm, and more N7-branded items.
With a Dead Space crossover having been added at the same time and N7 Day just around the corner, fans suspected they wouldn't have to wait long to get their hands on the new content. Some even suggested the surprise drop meant EA might have plans to deliver an update on its long-in-development Mass Effect 5 project. Of course, the controversial game publisher announced just days ago that it had no plans for BioWare or Mass Effect at all.

The remaining team of developers at the studio were abruptly laid off when the studio was shut down two days ago, October 21, 2026. It was a move that rocked the industry and left both fans and outsiders bewildered as EA also confirmed Mass Effect 5 was canceled, with the series' gaming presence consequently thrown into an indefinite hiatus. Perhaps more confusing was the existence of that Mass Effect content in Battlefield 6, but it didn't take long for DICE and the rest of BioWare's former sister studios at Battlefield Studios to pull the collaboration completely.
Fans quickly discovered EA had quietly removed any mention of the Mass Effect cosmetics in the wake of BioWare's shutdown. Although it's a move that has only further divided a community of gamers already disheartened by EA leadership, it's easy to see why the company swiftly moved to pull the plug.
Continuing to push Mass Effect content on fans mourning the demise of the once-beloved sci-fi RPG franchise would certainly only sour the already-bitter taste in players' mouths. With there likely being no plans for any of the franchise's usual N7 Day festivities come November 7, a relatively small drop of cosmetics would have only added insult to injury.
It would have been an especially painful blow for fans of EA's past considering the publisher already caught flak for its even more prominent Dead Space crossover. Featuring both weapons and even a new mode, Battlefield 6's collab arrived at a time when Dead Space's future as a living, breathing game franchise also remained a mystery. Although franchise followers seem to have enjoyed the mode, many have also lobbed criticism at EA for doing the minimum with some of its most critically acclaimed IP.
