DLSS 5 improves the visual quality, focusing specifically on better lighting and delivering a highly detailed version of in-game characters. The tech is still new, and many still debate its usage due to its reliance on generative AI and how it impacts the art direction (and performance) of games.
The official version of DLSS 5 is exclusive to RTX 50 series graphics cards and only supports select games at launch, but there is a leaked and modded version of the tech that allows you to install it on any game and supports previous generations of the RTX series.
This is an unofficial, modded version of DLSS 5. Downloading this version of DLSS 5 is at your own risk and should be used cautiously, as you may get banned from multiplayer games like Call of Duty and Fortnite due to changing the .dll files.
Run ReShade and install it for any of the games that you want. When installing, select DirectX 12, then uncheck all add-ons except for the Standard Effects, which is mandatory. To make sure ReShade is installed successfully, run your game once, and you should get a prompt on top of the screen saying how to open the ReShade control panel.
To install DLSS 5 on any game, find the folder where the main executable file of the game is located. It should have a ".exe" suffix. Then, copy all the downloaded files from Discord and paste them into the game's directory. Just make sure that you have installed ReShade for that specific game already.
After launching the game, head to the settings menu and make sure that the DLSS upscaling method is enabled. Now, press the Home button on the keyboard to open the mod's control panel. Switch to the AddOn tab, and look for an option named "DLSS 5 Neural Rendering." This is the button to enable or disable DLSS 5 in your game. It should be enabled by default, but if you disable it, tick off the radio button and restart your game.
It's worth noting that if you are using a lower-grade card with less VRAM space, you might get a huge frame hit when enabling DLSS 5. It is highly recommended to use Frame Gen while DLSS 5 is enabled to compensate for the loss of frames.
DLSS 5 will launch with NBA 2K27 on September 3rd, 2026.
