So, you reckon you've mastered the combat in Star Wars Zero Company. Perhaps you're getting into the game as an XCOM veteran, or you've already beaten the game once and want some extra challenge. In that case, you might be tempted by Zero Company's Beskar mode - an option that gives you just a single save file, preventing you from save scumming your way to victory.
However, before you commit to this, I have to warn you that the mod is probably even more punishinhg than you're expecting. Not only are you restricted to a single save file, making any permadeaths actually permanent, but that one save file will automatically be deleted if you get a game over - for any reason. Yes, even if your Hawks is still alive.
After reviewing the game, I tried out Beskar mode on the hardest difficulty... and got as far as the mission Eavesdropping. In fairness, my entire party was downed, so I earned that game over. However, unlike in Baldur's Gate 3's similar Honour mode, there's no option to continue with Beskar turned off; it just wipes your save.
I then looked up other players' experiences with it, and found that it can get even harsher than that. It will wipe your save if you get a game over for any reason, which includes failing a mission objective. So, if a temporary companion you've been tasked with saving in a side mission dies, your save is gone.
However, I am hearing players report an even more diabolical way to lose your save - a game crash. Some are claiming that, with Beskar mode on, a game crash will result in your save being wiped. I am assuming that is either because the game couldn't make an exit save, or the game thinks you shut down the game to try and save scum. Either way, make sure everything is stable before you commit to Beskar mode. Admittedly, I ran into some softlocks before launch, and that would have been an agonising way to go out.
If you want to try it out while being able to back out at any time, there is a mod that lets you toggle Beskar mode on and off. That might be the best way to go about it until Zero Company gets some updates to make everything more stable.
