The Nintendo Switch 2 was hit by the price hikes affecting all gaming hardware earlier this month. However, if you didn’t manage to get a Switch 2 before the price went up, I have good news. Nintendo’s latest console is available for its lowest price ever right now, but it won’t stay that way for long.
The Switch 2 launched with an MSRP of £395.99 in the UK. That MSRP went up to £419.99 on September 1, meaning the console now costs just £10 less than the Mario Kart World bundle option those who bought the console at launch were given.
The price cuts the Switch 2 has now received at certain retailers bring its price down to well below either of those MSRPs, meaning if you buy one now, you’re going to get quite the deal compared to early Switch 2 adopters. You’re going to get quite the deal compared to anyone who already owns a Switch 2, as this is the lowest the console’s price has dropped since it was released.
Smyths Toys and Argos are the two retailers currently selling Switch 2 consoles at a heavy discount. The two leading brands left in the UK when it comes to physical stores from which you can buy games and the hardware you need to play them, particularly after Game shut down all of its standalone stores earlier this year.
The Switch 2’s price has been cut to £354.99 at Smyth and Argos. That’s £40 less than its launch price, and a £65 saving against its current MSRP. More than 15% off, which is quite the saving on not just a still very new console, but a Nintendo console. Nintendo’s hardware and games do go on sale, but not as often as its competitors, and usually not for all that much.
Remember, we’re talking about the company that told customers they “got what they bargained for” when they asked for refunds after Nintendo was given money back for charges incurred via illegal tariffs in the US.
There’s no indication on either site hinting at just how long the Switch 2 is going to be available for such a low price. However, if you missed out on picking one up before the price hike, you’ve been thinking about picking one up, or you need a Switch 2 for a gift this holiday season, I would really cash in on this pretty incredible offer while you have the chance if you can afford to do so.
There’s no telling when Smyths and Argos will return the Switch 2 to its new £419.99 MSRP, and no telling when it will have its price cut again. Even if it does, I’d be very surprised if the price drops as low as £354.99 again anytime soon. With RAM prices still on the rise, the most likely scenario is that some time soon, Nintendo will be forced to raise the price of the Switch 2 again.
