Ryan Reynolds has promised that Marvel will reveal the truth behind that mysterious Deadpool & Wolverine flashforward featuring Thor — eventually, at least.
Interviewed by Entertainment Today, Reynolds was asked about the curious moment in his hugely successful Wolverine team-up movie where Deadpool appears to glimpse a future version of himself lying gravely injured, while Chris Hemsworth's Thor looks tearfully on.
"Don't we all want to know why was Thor crying? I want to know too," Reynolds teased. "We will find out at some point. And I'm excited for people to find out."
Could the moment be coming in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars? Here, Reynolds appeared to plead complete ignorance of his potential role in either film, despite having appeared at both San Diego Comic-Con and D23 this summer to help promote the movie.
Asked about his recent humorous appearance with Hugh Jackman where the two stars appeared to beg for a role in Doomsday, Reynolds said he "still didn't know" what that clip meant (this seems extremely unlikely) and that there was "a lot to unpack" in it (there really was not).
Reynolds' involvement in Doomsday was stated last year by The Hollywood Reporter, so there's really no question around whether he will actually turn up. So far, however, Marvel appears to be keeping its focus on promoting Doomsday with the movies (many) major players: the Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men.
Earlier this week, Avengers: Doomsday directors Joe and Anthony Russo defended shooting the film without a finished script, stating that their improvisational style of production was where "the magic happened."
