007 First Light Nintendo Switch Release Gets Major Delay

James Bond is one of the most recognizable names worldwide. IO Interactive adapted the classic franchise into a video game with 007 First Light, following the story of James Bond in his younger years and bringing to life the tale of how he joined a branch of British intelligence services known as MI6.

007 First Light launched to gleaming reviews, with the Top Critic Average on OpenCritic sitting at a respectable 87, and the player rating reaching 90.

As of August, 007 First Light sold 4 million copies, and more players are expected to embark on the espionage adventure when the game rolls out on Nintendo Switch 2.

However, the wait for Nintendo Switch 2 players to finally get their turn has just been extended, as IO Interactive has announced a delay until 2027.

The official 007 First Light X account announced the delay of the Nintendo Switch 2 port, saying, “we know many of you have been looking forward to experiencing Bond's reimagined origin story on Nintendo Switch 2, and we greatly appreciate your enthusiasm. To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027, with the exact date to be communicated later. This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game.”

A 007 First Light demo will be playable hands-on at the Tokyo Game Show, which takes place from September 17 to September 21. It will be the same demo that was at Gamescom, which the developers say they received positive feedback on and is a “a great sign of the progress being made across the whole game as we head toward launch”

The statement concludes by stating that the team will share further updates as soon as they are ready.

This isn’t the first time the Nintendo Switch 2 port has been delayed. It was originally supposed to be released at the same time as other platforms in May, but was later delayed to summer 2026. Considering the fact that summer is almost over in the Northern Hemisphere, a further delay seemed inevitable.
