I played the original Crazy Taxi on my Dreamcast so much the disc doesn’t really work anymore.
To be fair, SEGA’s GD-ROMs were notable for scratching easily, but I didn’t have this problem with any of my other games from the era. I generally look after all of my things really well.
No, the home console conversion of Kenji Kanno’s arcade outing is quite simply one of my favourite games of all time.
Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity to both speak to the big man and get my hands on an early build of the new game Crazy Taxi: World Tour at Gamescom last week.
This was an incredibly early build running on base PS5 hardware, but a closed beta test of the multiplayer mode is set to deploy later this month, so I’m eager to see how that fares.
I was dropped behind the wheel as returning protagonist Axel in the newly announced Germany sandbox, which felt fitting given I was in Cologne.
In fact, I had a lot of fun exploring and discovering Cologne Cathedral is included in the map itself, situated next to the giant train station that’s located in the centre of the city.
Crazy Taxi is a game intended to be played at breakneck pace, but I did pause for a moment to pan the camera here, given I’d walked around the exact same area just a few hours before my hands-on. Uncanny.
