Square Enix announced its next SaGa series game will be a 3D remake of Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United during the September 2026 Nintendo Direct. It will appear not only on the Switch and Switch 2, but also the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. It launches on February 16, 2027.
In Romancing Saga 3, 300 years passed and a Child of Destiny appeared. However, these individuals can turn out good or bad, with one from 600 years ago being a destructive Archfiend and the one from 300 years ago a hero. We can choose to follow a a woman named Ellen, a young man named Julian, Katarina the knight, Khalid the mercenary, Mikhail the marquis, Mikhail’s sister Princess Monika, Ellen’s sister Sarah, and a man named Thomas as each one searches for the new Child of Destiny and hopes to stop the Archfiend’s Sinistrals from destroying the world. The character you choose shapes the story, which is freeform as in past SaGa games. It may also affect who could be recruited as allies.
The Nonastrum selected for a playable character also affects their abilities in the traditional, turn-based timeline battles. Formations will determine possible perks and strategic battle elements. As you fight, the glimmer feature could result in new techniques being picked up, and mastered ones can be taught to increase others’ movesets. There is also a United Attack system for combat for increased damage.
Some first screenshots of the Romancing SaGa 3 remake also appeared, and you can see how it looks below. These also highlight the Casual, Normal, and Classic (Hard) difficulty settings and option to go with the new or original soundtrack.
This is the second time we’ve seen this SaGa game return on modern consoles. A remaster of Romancing SaGa 3 showed up worldwide in November 2019.
The Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United remakewill come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on February 16, 2027. The original game showed up on the Super Famicom in Japan, and a remaster launched worldwide on the Switch, PS4, Vita, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices after that. Standard physical and digital copies will be available, as well as a Digital Deluxe version.
