It didn't take long for Crimson Desert to get some new stuff. During today's State of Play presentation, developer Pearl Abyss unveiled Charting the Unknown. This is the game's first post-launch DLC, and it's set to arrive 15th October on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Charting the Unknown brings a new set of story missions to Crimson Desert. Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane set off on an adventure that takes the trio deeper into the continent of Pywel. We've known since June that Crimson Desert is getting DLC at some point, so it's nice to see it revealed today and that it's not too far off.
Today's trailer footage was captured on a PS5 Pro, if you're curious. It offers a first look at the homesteading and house-building features, and what looks to be a marriage proposal and romance feature. NPCs were also shown cooking, so presumably you can get them to prepare food for you.
Pearl Abyss sadly hasn't offered any official details about the expansion to go along with today's announcement, so we're speculating somewhat here.
Charting the Unknown is available to pre-order now on PS5, with Steam, Xbox and the Epic Games Store pre-orders kicking off later today. The DLC, priced £19.99 in the UK and $24.99 in the US, notably isn't coming to the Mac (App Store) version, but Pearl Abyss will let us know if the plan changes.
If you decide to put down your money early, you'll unlock the Charter's Diving set (for Kliff and Oongka) and Charter's Light Diving set (for Damiane) as a pre-order bonus.
The DLC announcement comes hot on the heels of Crimson Desert's Enhanced free upgrade. Enhanced bundles all previously-released patches alongside some new skills, story additions, localisations in multiple new languages, a revamp to the way characters earn and quip skills and much more.
Not shown today, for obvious reasons, is Crimson Desert's in-development Switch 2 version, which the developer announced in August. Pearl Abyss also said at the time it's exploring multiplayer and live service models for the franchise.
