HBO's Game of Thrones ended in 2019, yet it may be more active now than it was during its heyday. While we have yet to really hear anything about George R. R. Martin's next entry in A Song of Ice and Fire, fans of this universe are certainly not starved for content, and Warner Bros. plans to keep that train rolling over the next few years. Along with rumored projects that haven't been officially greenlit, 4 major Game of Thrones releases should happen in 2027 and 2028, spanning a few different mediums.
From sequel series to forays into cinematic territory and a game that lets you seize the Iron Throne, GoT will be attacking from every entertainment avenue, and it may still reveal a few more entry points. Going by the currently available information, here are all the GoT stories and projects confirmed to be coming.
I'll include a section at the end with rumored GoT releases, but Warner Bros. hasn't officially confirmed them.
HBO's Game of Thrones debuted more than 15 years ago, while A Song of Ice and Fire has been around since 1996. During that time, we received 15 video games, and basically none of them were any good. Telltale's Game of Thrones, Reigns: Game of Thrones, and Dragonfire are the only worthwhile releases, and they aren't great or memorable by any stretch of the imagination. Considering GoT's absurd popularity, its video game resume is absolutely pathetic.
At this point, I wouldn't recommend getting excited about any new GoT game, but War for Westeros actually seems like it might be a cut above the rest. A real-time strategy game fits the franchise perfectly, and the upcoming project will hopefully not be bogged down by free-to-play anchors like Dragonfire. Playside doesn't have a particularly massive or impressive resume in the RTS genre, but the developer previously worked on Age of Darkness: Final Stand, which isn't too far removed from what a GoT game should look like.
Along with skirmishes, War for Westeros features a campaign that lets you step into the hot seat as the leader of either House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or the White Walkers, each of which comes with hero characters like Jon Snow, Jamie Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and the Night King. Rather than tell an original story, the game lets you alter history's trajectory, changing how battles play out and reshaping Westeros' political climate.
