Best Early Skills in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy

Long before she became a hardened and stoic sea smuggler, Sophia was swinging her blade to fight off soldiers and other brutes in her origin tale of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. See, while you can just parry and attack to victory in the encounters in this entry, the game makes it evidently clear that the skills you unlock can drastically help keep things engaging as well as make the combat less tedious to play, especially on hard difficulty and above with aggressive enemies.

And knowing which skills to invest your hard-earned Resonance points in the early-to-mid-game chapters can be consequential here, so join me in this guide where I explain the best early skill unlocks to get in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy as well as how you can get more Resonance Points on the side.

I'll immediately say first and foremost here that Aegean Deflect is easily the best skill in Resonance, mainly because of its perk that allows you to double the stun bar fill-up on enemies if you perform any late parries. And on top of that, if you can find more Resonance Points or have spare lying around, then the Mastery that allows you to parry Red Attacks makes this an outright beast of an upgrade to have on Sophia right out of the gates.

You won't have to worry about dodging the enemy's incoming red-glint attacks, which is especially useful against those Brute-type enemies, since all they have in their moveset (for the most part) are those slow yet deadly swinging red attacks. Not to mention, for some pivotal boss fights, this skill makes some attacks in their moveset a lot easier to manage, since you can then just parry them freely.

The next skill I recommend getting early on in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is the Hero's Step, which allows you to perform a second dodge while being invulnerable. Thankfully, this game lets you reset skill points so you can try something else, since my mistake was not getting this at all until the mid-game point.

The reason why I regret it like that is that the combat encounters in this game often push you into cornered circumstances, especially for someone like me who was playing on the game's hard difficulty setting.

Two enemies can often simultaneously attack and wail at you, leaving little room to breathe or recuperate. So it's highly advised that you get this skill in your arsenal as soon as possible, since you can quickly cover more distance with those double evasions. And if you want to increase the i-frames even further, although it's not recommended, you can then get the Mastery here that makes you "almost invulnerable."

This one's just an extra, so if you find it useful, feel free to get it later as the third option. Bullbreaker Kick is the skill that I got back when I first played the game's preview version, and let me tell you, while the default kick is great on its own at pushing down enemies off cliffs or into death traps, this upgraded second kick makes it even better to create some safe space against enemies, or to just quickly stun them by kicking them straight into a wall.
