Rockstar Games Issues New Official Statement on GTA 6

Rockstar Games has issued a new update for Grand Theft Auto 6, adding fresh information about the highly-anticipated open world game to its website. Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to be one of the biggest new video game releases of all time when it finally hits store shelves on November 19. It's highly likely that GTA 6 will absolutely demolish sales records and become a landmark release that will be played for many years after its initial release, not unlike its predecessors.

The hype for GTA 6 is at a fever pitch, and this is despite Rockstar showing relatively little of the game before launch compared to how other companies market their titles. There was the GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix that gave fans their first proper look at gameplay after years of waiting, preceded by a collection of screenshots and trailers. Much of GTA 6 remains shrouded in mystery, and fans will have to wait for the game to come out so they can play for themselves and get the full picture.

In the meantime, a recent update from Rockstar gives GTA 6 fans a little more information to go by. Rockstar has added the ESRB rating for Grand Theft Auto 6 to its website, confirming that, as many likely guessed, the game has been hit with an M for Mature rating. The ESRB rating says that GTA 6 has earned its M for featuring Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. Notably, the ESRB rating claims that GTA 6 has "In-Game Purchases," which is something Rockstar itself has denied, but there may be more to it than what appears on the surface.

Rockstar has said that GTA 6 does not have microtransactions, which is typically what the ESRB is referring to when it mentions In-Game Purchases. However, it's possible that the rating is referring to the fact that GTA 6 has paywalled some content behind the $100 Deluxe Edition. While the vast majority of the GTA 6 experience will be available to those who buy the base game, some shops and various other things will only be available to those willing to pay extra.

It's also possible that the ESRB rating is referring to future microtransactions that will be added as part of the inevitable GTA 6 online mode. GTA 6's online mode has yet to be properly unveiled at the time of this writing, but the dizzying success of GTA 5's online means that it's guaranteed to be in the pipeline. Current predictions suggest that the GTA 6 online multiplayer mode won't be coming until 2027, though, so fans should brace themselves for that possibility, and the microtransactions that are likely to come with it.

As we get closer to the GTA 6 November 19 release date, it will be interesting to see what else is revealed about the game. It's possible Rockstar will try to stay as quiet as possible, but it's also possible that fans will get treated to another trailer or gameplay showcase. Time will tell, but for now, fans can mark their calendars and continue counting down the days til GTA 6 finally releases to the masses.
