Just like with the various Spider-Man games, half the fun of Marvel's Wolverine is getting to pick from literally dozens of different costume choices as you hack and claw your way across the Marvel Universe. Insomniac has clearly done its homework, as they've crammed in plenty of suits inspired by classic Marvel Comics storylines, and even some from the various X-Men cartoons and movies. All that, plus they found room to include a few original designs, to boot.
As we count down the final days until Marvel's Wolverine hits the PS5, let's explore every costume confirmed to appear in the game and how it pays homage to the source material.
Much like Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Wolverine focuses on a core costume that, while it pays homage to the comics, also stands as an original creation by the designers at Insomniac. In this case, Insomniac has dubbed Logan's new suit the "Battle Reborn" costume. It's clearly based on Wolverine's classic yellow and blue Tiger Stripe and Astonishing costumes, but it's also been given a more rugged and functional overhaul. It's a tool more than a visual statement, befitting a universe where the X-Men as we know them don't yet exist.
The game features a number of suits where Wolverine trades in his bright yellow spandex for more ordinary civilian clothes. None of these are necessarily a 1:1 copy of any specific comic book look, but all speak to Logan's particular fashion sense - cowboy hats, leather jackets, tank tops, and so forth.
This armored suit is inspired by the one Logan wore in the 2013 Wolverine comic. At the time, his healing factor had been shorted out, forcing him to rely on a flexible yet impervious costume with its own built-in set of claws.
1995's Age of Apocalypse crossover introduced an alternate Marvel timeline where Professor Xavier was killed as a young man and Apocalypse awoke early, ushering in a new dystopian era. Like his fellow X-Men, Wolverine is a dramatically different person in this reality, reflected by his red and blue costume and the fact that he's missing his left hand (the claws remain, though).
2004's Astonishing X-Men #1 ended the X-Men's flirtation with black leather costumes and brought back the spandex look. Artist John Cassaday redesigned Logan's classic Tiger Stripe costume for a new era, playing around with the shapes and establishing a new look that would remain the gold standard for the next 10 years.
If any comic book outfit can rival the Tiger Stripe costume as Logan's most iconic look, it's this one. It was introduced way back in 1980's Uncanny X-Men #139 and stuck around for the next decade. The Brown Costume has inspired many suits that have followed, and Wolverine still returns to this look every now and again.
