Do you know how long the actual The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild soundtrack is? It’s huge. When the CD set showed up in Japan and digital tracks launched on Nintendo Music, it ended up consisting of five CDs with 209 songs from the game. (211 if you count the pieces from E3 2024 and the 2017 presentation.) It’s massive. Obviously, the Nintendo and Laced Records The Legend of Zelda deluxe double vinyl soundtrack release isn’t going to cover all of that given it’s only two records, but the selections chosen are pretty perfect.
There are 34 tracks on the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild deluxe double vinyl soundtrack, with 18 on the first record and 16 on the other. The execution means if you start with Disc 1 Side A and go in order, it feels a bit like it takes you through what would be a sort of “recommended” progression for the story and dungeons. So Disc 2 Side B ends with the return to Hyrule Castle and fights against Ganon. I really appreciated it, as it both pays respect to the game, follows the already established order, and could make a listener feel like they’re reliving memories in the way they experienced then.

As an aside, the jacket also features the iconic scene of Link against Hyrule, and the sleeves inside also feature Nintendo archive art that looks lovely.
A lot of these make sense due to being staples! “Main Theme,” “Do You Really Remember Me,” “Overworld (Day),” “Overworld (Battle),” and “The Shrine’s Trial” all fit into those categories. There are a number of songs we also hear often, such as the ones for different towns in Hyrule. Using the “day” versions track as well, since we probably encounter and remember them most. I think the notable enemy tracks are a nice inclusion, such as “Hinox Battle.” “Great Fairy Fountain” and “The Lost Woods” even feel a bit like callbacks.
The song selection choices also kind of make it feel like each album has a “theme,” even though you can feel a sense of progression when listening. Disc 1 struck me as the exploration and getting started record. There are a lot of themes we hear often and ones that help set the stage. Disc 2, in contrast, can feel like it’s more about the story. We’re getting the Champion and major boss fight references. It’s taking us through the campaign-related regions. It’s building to the boss fight and reveal. I appreciate it and, while I do think like I’d most likely listen to both one after the other whenever I do, I also get the impression someone could listen to one or the other separately and still feel like it is a “complete” experience.
Now, while I do mostly really appreciate the song selection for this record release, there are a few tracks that I did miss. They also seemed like odd omissions. Given we have the battle themes for other Champions’ Divine Beasts, it is weird for “Battle with Divine Beast Vah Rudania” to be left out! But then, we do hear “Battle with Thunderblight Ganon” instead of “Battle with Divine Beast Vah Naboris.” Also, while it is a DLC track, I’d have loved to hear “The Champion’s Ballad” here.
The Laced Record and Nintendo choices for the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild deluxe double vinyl version of the soundtrack are sound. The songs selected are some of the most recognizable, memorable, and important ones from the game. They pay tribute to major characters and fights. The execution also almost makes it feel like we’re progressing through the campaign or story again. It’s a well-executed release.
