007 First Light on Nintendo Switch 2 Delayed to 2027

IO Interactive today revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light will no longer release in 2026.

007 First Light made quite the splash when it launched on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC back in May. The game's original take on James Bond was not only positively received by critics, but also by fans. As of August 20, 2026, the game had sold over 4 million copies, making it one of the year's fastest selling games. It's a remarkable achievement for a series that hadn't seen a new game release in more than a decade.

However, all of those sales came from the three mentioned platforms. Missing-in-action is the fourth platform. IO Interactive had already confirmed that 007 First Light on Nintendo Switch 2 would not launch day-and-date with the other versions, but sometime later in 2026. Today, we now know it won't launch in 2026 at all.

IO Interactive revealed on X, formerly Twitter, that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will now launch in March 2027. No specific reason was given for the long delay other than to deliver the 'quality of experience players expect.' The team said they would use the extra time to continue polishing the game on the platform.

We know many of you have been looking forward to experiencing Bond's reimagined origin story on Nintendo Switch 2, and we greatly appreciate your enthusiasm. To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027, with the exact date to be communicated later. This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game.

We were thrilled by the positive feedback on 007 First Light at gamescom, and it's a great sign of the progress being made across the whole game as we head toward launch.

As IO pointed out, the Nintendo Switch 2 was available to play at Gamescom this year, which garnered a positive reception. However, the demo didn't feature any of the missions that feature larger crowds and more processing power. The same demo will be available at Tokyo Game Show.

007 First Light joins a growing list of third-party games launching on Nintendo Switch 2 long after their release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Digimon Story: Time Stranger, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and Hell is Us among others are all getting Switch 2 releases months or even a year after their initial release. Even some titles that were supposed to launch rather quickly, like Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, Kingdom Hearts, Monster Hunter Wilds, and the Resident Evil Remake Trilogy, are all arriving much later than expected.
