Overwatch's Cyberpunk Event Confirmed To Focus On Edgerunners

When it was revealed that Blizzard and CD Projekt Red would be working together, many hoped this meant there would be an Overwatch x Cyberpunk 2077 collab event. Those prayers were answered at BlizzCon this year, as it was confirmed that Cyberpunk-related skins would be coming to Overwatch soon.

The only problem is that these skins will be centred around Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the spin-off anime, rather than the actual game, Cyberpunk 2077. Fans were already frustrated by how much Edgerunners hogs the spotlight, and this has only exacerbated those feelings, as many were hoping to see V, Johnny, and Panam represented in the game.

The decision to have the Overwatch event focus only on Edgerunners has clearly divided fans. It means that the only game character who has a real shot of making it into Overwatch as a skin is Adam Smasher, since he also appears in the anime. Otherwise, we can expect David and Lucy skins, and likely some rep for the new gang in Edgerunners 2.

Edgerunners fans have certainly been well catered for. They just got a huge Wuvering Waves event, which featured several characters from the show. Before that, Lucy was added as a playable character to Guilty Gear Strive, and Apex Legends got some Edgerunners-inspired skins.

On the other hand, the only real 2077 collab we've seen in another game is V and Johnny getting skins in Fortnite. Admittedly, if we're going to get anything, that is a huge get, but it's wild that the main duo haven't made many more appearances than this. Maybe we'll get a second wave of Cyberpunk skins in Overwatch further down the line? It wouldn't be a first for Overwatch - just look at all the Le Sserafim skins we're getting.

In the meantime, Edgerunners' long-awaited second season is coming soon. It is set to hit Netflix on October 20, 2026.
