After completing "The Isle of Mists" in The Witcher 3, you'll immediately return to Kaer Morhen to prepare for a deadly battle against the Wild Hunt. There are some crucial choices to make in the preparations for the big fight, and even in the mission itself, an ally could die if you're not careful. Before The Isle of Mists, you should make sure to complete all Brothers in Arms quests. This will ensure you have all allies to help you in this epic battle. You should also complete the side quest "Berengar's Blade" before you begin the council.
When you start the council, you will be asked about what you should do with the lab equipment:
You should pick "Witchers' traps - that's the best idea" as it's better for you to have more tripmines that will aid you in the fight against the Wild Hunt, as a few Superior Swallow potions aren't going to do much for you, especially when you should already have them at this point.
The next question you're asked is what you should do about the workshop tools:
You should pick "Patch up the wall" as this ensures you will encounter fewer enemies during the battle. If you decide to clear the armory, you will get the unique Rose of Shaerrawed silver sword, but let's face it, you're not going to use that anyway.
When you're ready for the battle, and you're confident with your loadout and choices, head to the main door to begin the battle. You will also be locked into this quest, and the next two, so be ready!
Your first objective is simple: run to the portals (as shown on your minimap) and destroy them. All portals can be destroyed with Yrden, the purple sign. Just walk into the portal and use Yrden to instantly destroy it, as this will save you from wasting your powerful Dimeritium bombs.
