Legendary has dropped a new trailer for the Street Fighter movie showing E. Honda pulling off some of his iconic moves and teasing some unexpected tension between Ryu and Ken.
Street Fighter is hurricane kicking its way to theaters on October 16, and a new trailer has been shown in the lead-up to its release that features some of the game’s core cast members throwing down in familiar locales.
One of the more notable fighters who got some time to shine in this trailer was E. Honda, who we see facing off against Ryu in his famous bath house stage. He pulls off his Sumo Headbutt move (and surprisingly, it doesn’t look totally absurd), as well as his Hundred Hand Slap. For a moment, it looks like Ryu is on the losing end of this fight before he sends Honda flying with a Tatsumaki.
We also get to see Ryu and Ken brawling in a dark alleyway, and it seems like these two have had a falling out at some point, likely spurred by Ryu dropping off the face of the earth to pursue a path that appears to involve the Dark Hadou. We see him charging up a purple fireball as he says there was “darkness growing” within him — while Ken tries and fails to release a single Hadouken in his swanky apartment.
“I spent years living in Ryu’s shadow,” Ken says, promising to “win it all” at the World Warrior tournament thrown by M. Bison, who secretly plans on stealing the strongest fighters’ powers for himself (or something to that effect).
Chun-Li informs Ryu that Ken is in danger and urges him to "fight" and save him, though we aren’t sure of the specifics just yet. Could this be a parallel to the animated 1994 movie, where Bison captures Ken, brainwashing and transforming him into Violent Ken?
Cody Rhodes also gets some time to shine as Guile, who, in this movie, is a sarcastic, smart-mouthed guy as opposed to his stoic in-game counterpart. He delivers a few funny lines, one of which sees him interacting with Andrew Schulz’s Dan Hibiki.
Notably, Roman Reigns also makes an appearance as Akuma, lifting up Alexander Volkanovski’s Joe with the power of the Satsui no Hadou.
