Gold is a rare material, both in real life and in Graveyard Keeper 2. It can be used to make jewelry, better equipment, such as the Golden Talisman, and perhaps most importantly, Gold Zombie Collars, which allow zombie workers to have up to 10 Red Skulls and therefore 10 Perks. However, there are no gold mines or obvious ways of gaining gold, and instead players must unlock a specific Perk, which allows them to find Golden Nuggets when sifting through Sand to produce Tin.
The main way to find Golden Nuggets in Graveyard Keeper 2 is to sift Sand at a Sluice Box. However, you will need to unlock the Metallurgy Perk, Gold Digger, which allows you to find gold. The main use of the Sluice Box is to obtain Tin, which is an ingredient for making Bronze Ingots.
Sand can be dug at a pit in the south-west corner of the player's base. You will need a Shovel and plenty of food to refresh your stamina.
Once players have some Golden Nuggets, they will be able to start smelting Golden Ingots at a Furnace. However, the Furnace requires the Bellows upgrade.
You can put zombie workers at the Furnace to speed up the process, as they will extract the product and start the next item. There must be a zombie porter, though.
Another way of gaining gold is via Alchemy. You'll need to unlock Alchemy Advanced in the Anatomy & Alchemy Tech Tree. You can then craft the Philosopher's Stone at the Laboratory, using the following formula:
For example, you could use Iron Ore, Fragrance, and Alcohol.
You can then head over to your Formulation Bench and craft either of the following:
