One big question that lingers over every Football Manager game in the lead-up to its release is whether we'll be able to play it early through what used to be called the "beta" but has since been branded Early Access (and now Early Play). With Football Manager 27, it's no different, but thankfully, Sports Interactive provided a major update confirming some details about its new Early Access window.
During the match-day trailer for FM 27, it was revealed that the game will launch on November 10, a timeline similar to many previous games in the franchise; however, no solid date was given for the Early Access window.
While FM 27 doesn't appear to have taken too much of a leap forward compared to FM 26 in the match engine, something that was to be expected given that the game only moved to the Unity engine quite recently, there are some additions that are noteworthy. These include progressive weather changes throughout a match and the passing of time, which is much more realistic than in any previous game.
Despite these changes, the FM 27 system requirements haven't taken a huge leap; in fact, they're largely the same as FM 26.
Thanks to the introduction of the Unity engine, mods have become more accessible, and players can design their own features to add to the engine.
Most importantly, though, the release date of FM 27 was confirmed as November 10, and an Early Access window is coming, though no date has been announced. Typically, the beta or Early Access window goes live about two weeks before the full release, but Sports Interactive has committed to this year's window being the most feature-complete yet, which suggests there is still quite a bit of work to do, and the window may be much shorter. For now, the only statement on the FM website about Early Access suggests a "1-2 week" window.
I've been playing Football Manager since 2005, and while the game has changed a ton over the years, the introduction of the beta or Early Access window is still relatively new. That said, based on what we know so far and what happened in previous years, I predict the FM 27 Early Access window will start on Tuesday, October 27.
That would be exactly two weeks before the FM 27 launch, but in previous years, Tuesdays and Wednesdays have been the most common days for the Early Access window to start. If Sports Interactive were to aim for the maximum two-week window, it would line up with previous beta periods, so it feels like a safe bet, provided nothing goes wrong with the final stages of development.
