The world of The Blood of Dawnwalker is full of all kinds of dangers. From bandits to an all-controlling vampire court to vicious animals in the woods, you'll need every advantage possible if you want to survive. One way to improve your chances is to increase your Corruption level, which is tied to Coen's vampiric side and acts as a leveling system tied to your nighttime gameplay.
However, between managing your gear, skill points, and witchcraft abilities, it's easy to overlook the Corruption meter or even view it as a negative part of the game given the framing. Here is everything you need to know about the Corruption system and how to increase your Corruption level.
Simply put, Corruption is a leveling system solely tied to Coen's Vampirism skill tree. Unlike Witchcraft or Swordmastery, you cannot find Manuals for vampiric abilities. Instead, the only way to improve perks you have is to increase Coen's Corruption level. This is done by drinking any type of blood, as it will fill the small circular meter in the bottom-left corner of your HUD next to your health bar.
The highest level you need for your Corruption level to improve any Vampirism ability is 15. This will also give you access to one of three different Ultimate abilities for this form. These are supremely powerful passives, such as giving your claw attacks Lifesteal or resetting all your active abilities when you use Voracious Bite.
Corruption cannot be lost, and you cannot respec any of the skill points you use on your Vampirism perks.
If you're looking to improve your Corruption level, the main way is to just consume blood. What and where the blood comes from is surprisingly irrelevant. Meaning that whether you feed on animals or humans, it will all make progress towards your Corruption level. Before getting into the best ways to improve your corruption, here's a quick breakdown of all the ways to increase it:
Your main way to increase your Corruption level is through feeding on humans or animals. When you fight enemies, using Voracious Bite on them will not only partially heal Coen but also fill part of his Corruption meter. This is one of Coen's best Vampirism abilities, so you should use it liberally in battle throughout the whole game.
Alternatively, when not battling foes, you can use Voracious Bite on most NPCs in the world. When activated, you will need to hold down X (Xbox) / Square (PlayStation) to feed on that person. As you do this, a meter will rapidly drain with two icons on it. Passing the first one will only knockout the human you're drinking from, while passing the second icon will outright kill whoever you're feeding on.
