Speaking as a child of the 90s myself, I can say with confidence that anyone who grew up playing games on the original PlayStation probably also did their fair share of LEGO building. Games and bricks, that’s how we rolled back in the day, sometimes with both simultaneously in games like LEGO Racers. For those who grew up in those particular spheres, or just appreciate that flavor of nostalgia, Sony and LEGO are teaming up to offer you something very interesting.
As part of Sony’s newest State of Play presentation earlier today, the company announced its formal collaboration with LEGO to produce the official LEGO PlayStation kit. This newest kit is cast in the image of the original PlayStation console, and I’m talking original original here. As in, pre-DualShock controller, a period in time that I frequently forget even existed.
This mammoth LEGO set is scheduled to launch on the PlayStation online storefront on October 1, 2026. It’ll also be available on October 1 on LEGO’s online storefront for members of the LEGO Insiders Early Access program, with regular sales beginning both online and in physical storefronts on October 4. However you buy it, the set will have an MSRP of $179.99. Hey, it’s cheaper than a real PlayStation cost back in the day.
According to the official PlayStation blog, as well as the newly created store page on the LEGO website, the LEGO PlayStation kit consists of 1,911 LEGO pieces, with the finished model being nearly 1:1 scale with a real-life PlayStation at 10.5 inches wide.
The set includes functioning power and disc tray switches. Obviously, it’s not an actual game console, but the buttons can be pressed in, and the disc tray switch also pops open the tray so you can look inside. The kit also includes a buildable PlayStation controller, pre-DualShock, with pressable D-pad and face buttons, which you can also plug into a faux socket on the front of the model.
