Zach Cregger's take on the legendary horror franchise with the Resident Evil movie has been a smashing success, both with its high public reception and record-breaking box office figures. Although Cregger himself has unfortunately sworn off the franchise and hasn't shown interest in future horror adaptations after backlash from fans before the film's release, its producer is an entirely different story.
Having been responsible for several highly acclaimed horror projects in recent years, from Hokum, Barbarian, Weapons, and the latest Resident Evil adaptation, the producer Roy Lee has recently set his sights on a new Silent Hill movie adaptation.
As noted by ChiefLeef22 on Reddit, a series of announcements over the past few days were collected by Dread Central and confirmed that not only was a new Silent Hill movie being greenlit in response to the smashing success of the Resident Evil film, but also raised even more excitement by confirming that Roy Lee was the one taking hold of the project.
Although no director is known to have been signed on just yet, fans have already been praising the announcement given that Lee "recently produced Hokum, which was VERY similar to Silent Hill 2," and raising hopes that Lee could even sign on the same director to repeat its similar success.
While we're not exactly starved for Silent Hill content anymore, thanks to Konami's push for annual gaming releases and even a movie released at the start of the year, the series has never really achieved its full horror movie potential.
With 2026's Return To Silent Hill being met with a massive amount of criticism that led to some abysmal review scores, the psychological horror franchise has never really found as much footing in the movie industry compared to Resident Evil's more explosive, albeit similarly controversial success aside from its most recent adaptation.
Although there are plenty of other factors that will affect whether or not the new Silent Hill movie will break the franchise curse and join Resident Evil alongside the hall of great gaming adaptations, there's at least some reason to hold out hope for the new movie reboot.
