Over the past 24 hours, MinnMax host and YouTube essayist Jacob Geller has been accused of sexual assault by a series of people online via social media sites such as Twitter and BlueSky. These accusations claim that Geller was under investigation for rape under Title IX after being accused of sexually assaulting his unconscious girlfriend during his time at the University of North Carolina in 2016.
This was then backed up after a BlueSky user found a list of Sexual Assault Records that UNC was forced to publish back in 2020, which revealed that Jacob Geller was suspended for one semester due to sexual assault or violence. It doesn't go into detail about the nature of the sexual assault, but it is evidence he was found guilty and punished for something related to sexual assault.
Tweets have also claimed that Geller was later fired from his college radio station as a result of the incident, with Geller "begging" in emails not to be let go, but these have seemingly been deleted and are currently unsubstantiated claims at the moment.
As a result of these allegations, several outlets that Geller is associated with have started distancing themselves from him. In today's episode of Game Mess Morning, Jeff Grubb revealed that Giant Bomb has removed Geller's Blight Club from the site, and that he's aware that there are other things on the site that Geller appears on that will be moved through slowly.
Geller's podcast Cane and Rinse has also released a statement following the allegations, explaining that those still in charge of the podcast "stand with all victims of sexual violence", and that all articles and podcasts in which Geller features will be removed.
Finally, MinnMax has also released a statement regarding the situation, explaining that Geller is no longer a part of the team and that he will not feature in content moving forward. The latest MinnMax show has also been canceled as a result of the allegations, with the team all "in shock and deeply hurt" by the situation.
It's also worth noting that Geller himself has not released a statement or commented on the situation since it was made public, and all the information out there about these allegations was released without the consent of the victim, so it's paramount to respect their privacy.
