Rayman Legends Retold has been pushed from October 1 to December 3, the developer has announced. The delay comes as a surprise, since the team says the game has gone gold, making this an unusually short but significant slip into the holiday season. With a Game Overview trailer scheduled for September 22, many are left wondering what extra polish the team plans to add in the extra two months.
"Going gold" means that a game is ready to be manufactured and distributed, so something like this would suggest that the studio will be prioritizing a day-one patch with last-minute fixes. Admittedly, there could be certification issues or platform parity work.
Rayman Legends Retold is uniquely positioned as a retelling of the original game rather than a traditional remaster. From trailers, familiar levels and beats have been completely rebuilt with 3D graphics and a different atmosphere. This approach is refreshing, especially to Rayman, who simply hasn't had enough adventures in 3D. Yet, until the game is out, we can't see for ourselves how faithfully the platforming precision and design have translated to a new camera and depth.
A sad note for longtime fans is that the original UbiArt engine team, the talent responsible for Rayman’s look for the modern era, are no longer with the company. That team left a clear stamp on their contributions to the series, and later, when they branched out with titles such as Child of Light and the two Valiant Hearts games, they transposed their franchise work into a meaningful, original vision. Their absence should be considered as this "classic" gets reimagined, but especially since the original engine and art philosophy shaped how levels were designed and how the game felt in players’ hands.
There is no reason to think that the delay is anything more than just an extra chance to take some more time to bring out as much potential for an experience that comes close to what came before. As the team takes extra care to get the retelling right before launch, we will keep our eyes peeled to see what kind of legs (or lack thereof) Rayman Legends Retold has when it launches on all major platforms on December 3, 2026.
