Almost two minutes of footage from what appears to be a remake of the original Persona has leaked online.
The clip, which seemingly gives the remake the subtitle Be Your True Mind, was shared on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit. It was uploaded to file-sharing site Gofile on 31st October under a Japanese filename that translates as "Megami Ibunroku Persona Remake".
Interestingly, the footage looks a lot like Atlus' more recent entries. It shows off stylish menus and a brief look at combat that closely resembles Persona 5 and Persona 3 Reload. There's also a short social link cutscene in a noticeably different, almost graphic novel art style.
Fans digging through the clip believe they have spotted several details that lend it credibility. These include what looks like Unreal Engine debug text in the top left corner during battle (Atlus switched to Unreal Engine for Persona 3 Reload), a new remix of the original PlayStation game's Pandora theme, and the protagonist being referred to as "Boy With Earring", which is how he is named in Persona 2: Eternal Punishment.
Atlus has not announced a Persona 1 remake, and we can't verify the footage, so treat all of this with the usual caveats.
How do you solve a problem like Persona 4? At Gamescom, we sat down with series director Kazuhisa Wada to talk about the Persona 4 Remake, and ask about how Atlus is approaching the original text for the remake.
