While life for your character is more whimsical in Fields of Mistria, there's still no shortage of daily tasks and errands for you to do, thanks in large part to the inherent Skills you have. They range from tending to crops to slaying monsters down in the Mines, essentially covering just about everything you can do in the game outside of passive activities like friendship and romance.
If taking care of animals is something that especially piques your interest, Ranching is one such Skill that you can get into rather quickly. Like other major activities in the game, there are quite a few bells and whistles to it, so here's how to get started with Ranching in Fields of Mistria, including how to unlock it, how to raise and breed animals, and more.
Ranching is one of the many Skills you can use in Fields of Mistria, and it pertains to raising and breeding various types of livestock Animals. There's no specific quest or objective you need to complete to unlock it, as you can start ranching as soon as you have access to Hayden's shop at Sweetwater Farm (directly west of your Farm) at the start of the game.
You'll also need access to the Carpenter's Shop at the Eastern Road northeast of town to get blueprints for Coops and Barns to safely house your Animals in. Eventually, as you upgrade both shops via the Town Improvement questline, you'll unlock more ranching supplies, a wider selection of Animals, and larger Coops and Barns.
Your main source of Ranching supplies in Fields of Mistria is at Hayden's shop at Sweetwater Farm, which is a short walk west of your Farm. You can start purchasing items from his shop soon after settling in during your first year, and all transactions require an exchange of Tesserae, the game's main currency.
Hayden's shop includes a category of Farm Supplies, which consists of the following:
The further you get into the story and Town Improvement questline, you'll also be able to purchase an Auto Feeder from Hayden's shop, which automatically feeds your Animals inside their Coops and Barns each day. You need to fill the Auto-Feeder with the correct type of Feed in order for it to disperse it to your Animals.
Alternatively, you can also gather both Hay and Grass Seed by cutting weeds and grass that pop up around your Farm.
