Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World announced for PS5

D3 Publisher and developer Sandlot have announced Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World for PlayStation 5. It is an updated version of Earth Defense Force 6 with enhancements tailored to PlayStation 5’s specifications. It will launch in 2027 in Japan.

Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World is the latest entry in the Earth Defense Force series, and a significant update of Earth Defense Force 6, which has captivated over one million players worldwide.

One of the major features of Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World is the “extreme” sense of despair that players feel as even larger swarms of enemies rain down upon them. At their peak, the sheer number of enemies is roughly double that of Earth Defense Force 6. Ants, bees, spiders—every enemy type has increased in volume. This delivers the series’ greatest “overwhelming sense of despair” and “satisfaction of defeating gigantic and countless enemies” yet.

The missions are based on those from Earth Defense Force 6, but more than half of the existing missions have been updated. Additionally, the number of formidable enemies, which previously only appeared in Earth Defense Force 6‘s downloadable content missions, has doubled, and they will now appear in the main story. There are also completely new missions, making this the game in the series with the most missions yet.

The game also introduces the series’ first weapon customization system, allowing players to modify weapons according to their strategy, such as customizing an assault rifle with custom ammunition that adds a combustion effect, or loading a rocket launcher with rockets that have a freezing effect.

Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World will be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026, which will run from September 17 to 21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.
