A former Rockstar Games developer believes GTA 6 Online could eventually let players create and monetize their own stories through roleplay.
GTA RP has transformed Rockstar’s open-world series, allowing communities to build custom characters, businesses and narratives on multiplayer servers.
The scene remains hugely popular ahead of GTA 6, with NoPixel 5.0 attracting major streamers despite some familiar names not receiving invitations.
According to former Rockstar cutscene product owner Joe Rubino, who worked on GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption, and Max Payne 3, the next step could be giving those players official ways to earn money from their creations.
Asked by Eldorado.gg if Rockstar could let players build and monetize custom narratives, Rubino replied: “Yeah, I do.”
However, he expects any creation tools to come with restrictions designed to protect Rockstar’s characters and artistic vision.
“If they can develop safeguarded tools that you can play within the lines of acceptability, then I think Rockstar probably could consider that,” he explained.
“There’s a reason why Warner Brothers doesn’t let ChatGPT sort of imagine Batman. There are safeguards, right? You’re going to have similar things. I just use that analogy because you could apply it to whatever the new characters in the GTA universe,” he commented.
