Xbox Game Pass is no stranger to offering some major releases on fairly short notice, with the subscription's newest September lineup being no exception to the rule. Coming off the heels of the most recent free play weekends, Xbox is bringing over half a dozen new games into Game Pass for an indefinite period of time.
While the announcement does also confirm we're losing some majorly popular triple-A and indie titles at the same time, it does help that they're being replaced with some excellent offerings, one of which is available to play for free right now if you have an active Game Pass membership.

From major triple-A shooters like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War coming to the platform to let more players experience their unique single-player campaigns or multiplayer potential with indie games like Speedrunners 2, Xbox Game Pass' lineup for September is already off to a great start, it seems, with a little something for everyone genre-wise.
Even though they're far less known by comparison, the deckbuilding roguelike gameplay offered by The Royal Writ or the massively expansive map of Runescape: Dragonwilds are still well worth checking out now that they're available on Game Pass.
Although there are plenty of reasons to be excited for Xbox's newest lineup of free games, several fantastic offerings are unfortunately leaving the Game Pass rotation this month as well, leaving you a limited amount of time to check out the following games before they go back to being only paid titles.
While the worth of Game Pass has been debated plenty of times in the past, the loss of critically acclaimed titles like the transformative roguelike Dead Cells, the emotional Spiritfarer, and Cyberpunk 2077 just to name a few are well worth trying out for free while you can, even if its just as a test before buying the real games for yourself to keep forever after they leave Xbox Game Pass this month.
