Star Wars: Galactic Racer, a racing game set in a galaxy far, far away from new studio Fuse Games, launches next week. The reviews are in for a game Star Wars fans have been eagerly anticpating ever since its surprise reveal at last year's Game Awards. Good news if you're one of those fans as the reviews are in, and they are better than anyone could have expected.
Right now Galactic Racer has an 88 on Metacritic and OpenCritic. Not only does that make it one of the highest-rated games of 2026 in a year that is packed with stiff competition, particularly these last six weeks or so, but it means it is the highest-rated Star Wars game to be released in more than two decades.
The last time a Star Wars game achieved a higher score than 88 on Metacritic was when Knights of the Old Republic launched in 2003. Still the record holder for the best-reviewed Star Wars game ever, KOTOR achieved an incredible 94. Not only is Galactic Racer the highest-rated game since that beloved classic was released 23 years ago, but it's the fifth highest-rated Star Wars game ever, behind KOTOR, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2, and Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.
Here at TheGamer, I've had the privilege of getting stuck in to everything Galactic Racer has to offer, awarding it a 4.5/5. "From its runs-based racing and compelling new characters to a multiplayer mode that will keep you playing long after you’re done with the campaign, Galactic Racer is another example of a studio taking some well-educated risks with the Star Wars IP to create something truly special," I wirite in my review which you can check out in full on the site right now.
"It is one of the most thrilling racing games released in years, with a compelling arsenal of systems, mechanics, modes, and even some pretty well-written characters," Lexi Luddy writes in her review of Galactic Racer at Gamer Guides, givng the roguelike racer a stellar 94 out of a possible 100. At Giant Bomb, Jeff Grubb gave the new Star Wars game a perfect 5/5, writing, "Star Wars: Galactic Racer is everything I hoped it would be. Fuse built a campaign that keeps giving me reasons to master the tracks, then made the racing feel good enough that I wanted to."
It's only a few days until everyone can hop in and give Galactic Racer a go as Fuse Games' debut title releases on October 6. Based on its reviews, it's going to round off a couple of very successful months for Star Wars games after Zero Company also received critical acclaim and seemingly had the sales to match.
