Earlier this year, I said Sony needs to “move mountains” to get Samson: A Tyndalston Story on the PS5, the noir crime caper with GTA-esque inspirations.
The game was slammed by reviewers for being janky, undercooked, and unfinished. It ended up with a 48 on Metacritic, which is a score so low you seldom actually see it for games.
To be fair, dev Liquid Sword’s founder Christofer Sundberg – a former Avalanche veteran – took the feedback on the chin, and said his team was committed to improving the game ahead of its console release.
And its Steam rating has now improved, registering as ‘Mixed’ at the time of writing.
There is hope this game can finally live up to its promise when it comes to the PS5 on 21st September, then, as confirmed in a new trailer today.
The release date trailer focuses on all the improvements the team has made to the game, including refinements to combat, better tutorials, and even difficulty options.
I don’t think September is the best release window for the game considering just how much other stuff is coming out this month, but I do hope it’s able to realise some of its potential at last.
