Blue Dragon Has Received An Incredible Fan-Made PC Port

Xbox was known for many things during the peak of the Xbox 360, but JRPGs were not one of them. Xbox knew this all too well, as its biggest competitor — the PS3 — had been dominating that market almost single-handedly for quite some time. In an attempt to change that perception, Xbox had some JRPGs made by various studios, which were overlooked at the time, but are cult classics nowadays.

Blue Dragon was one such JRPG, spearheaded by Final Fantasy creator Nobuo Uematsu's freshly founded studio Mistwalker, with character designs from the late, great Akira Toriyama. However, it has remained on the Xbox 360 ever since, and while it's playable via backwards compatibility, it's still locked at a pretty rough 30fps with outdated visuals.

Thankfully, we know that if a big corporation won't do something people want, there will be a random guy there with time to burn that will do it for absolutely free. First reported by PCGamer, a new PC port for Blue Dragon called Re:Blue has just been announced by a programmer called Tom, who recompiled the game's original code to run on PC.

Unlike the backwards compatible version on modern Xbox consoles, Re:Blue has an absolutely stacked list of features and improvements that really elevate the game and make this a PC port unlike any other we've seen so far. They include 4k resolutions, unlocked frame rates, quality presets for visuals, optional aspect ratios, FOV adjustments, and custom inputs for controllers by PlayStation and Switch.

There's a lot more than that too, and even minor things like a HUD that fades when you don't control anything. It's a major upgrade to the original Blue Dragon, and Tom doesn't plan on stopping there either. His team will continue to update the game when it releases this Friday, and also plans to add the characters from the sequel, which released on the Nintendo DS.

Once it's made available, you'll be able to find the project on GitHub, and hopefully, you'll never have to boot up an old Xbox console to play Blue Dragon ever again.
