There are so many farming games out there now that I genuinely don't know how anyone is supposed to keep track of all of them anymore. Stardew Valley is still the one most fans of the genre probably talk about, and every year seems to bring another farming game that manages to break through and find a decent-sized audience of its own. Unfortunately, that also means plenty of really good ones come and go without getting anywhere near the amount of attention they probably deserved. A new farming sim can look great and review incredibly well, but if it launches at the wrong time or doesn't immediately catch on, it's pretty easy for everyone to move on without ever realizing what they missed.
That's especially unfortunate because player counts don't always tell the same story as player reception. Some farming games have attracted remarkably small audiences on Steam, while the people who actually found them have been almost universally positive about what they played. When a game can barely get a few hundred people playing at the same time but still walk away with a 94% or 95% positive rating, I have a hard time believing quality was the problem. These five farming games are some of the clearest examples of great games that almost nobody showed up to play.
For added context, "near-perfect" refers to games with exceptionally strong Steam user scores, while "nobody played" is based on unusually low Steam player counts relative to that reception.
I'm starting with Before The Green Moon because I still can't quite get over that number. According to SteamDB, this farming game has never had more than eight people playing it on Steam at the same time. Eight. That's not the number playing it right now or even its average during a particularly slow month. That's the highest concurrent player count it has ever reached. Meanwhile, 94% of its 138 Steam reviews are positive, which makes this one of the strangest gaps between player reception and player count I've seen in quite some time.

The game itself is also far more interesting than its tiny audience would suggest. Before The Green Moon is a science-fiction farming sim set in a small community beneath a space elevator, and the player's eventual goal is to leave that community behind for the moon. Until then, life is considerably more grounded. You're growing crops and getting to know the people around you while the seasons slowly move you closer to your departure. There's a quietness to the whole premise that immediately distinguishes it from the usual "inherit a farm and save the town" setup, and Steam's 94% positive score suggests the handful of people who actually gave it a chance found plenty to like. It's just a shame there were apparently never more than eight of them in the same room at once.
Shinehill is a much newer game than most of the others here, so there's obviously still time for it to find a bigger audience. Still, it launched in March 2026 and has so far reached an all-time Steam peak of only 58 concurrent players, according to SteamDB. That's especially surprising when its actual reception has been this strong. Of the 260 reviews currently on Steam, 95% are positive. In other words, the problem certainly doesn't appear to be that people played Shinehill and hated it. There just haven't been very many people playing it in the first place.
