During today's State of Play, we caught a new glimpse at upcoming FPS METRO 2039, along with a confirmed February 4, 2027 release date.
The trailer showcases the post-apocalyptic sequel looking absolutely fantastic as it slinks through an abandoned dentist's office before ripping into the gunplay on offer. We also learned that the game will launch with a "60FPS Performance Mode with ray tracing support" on Xbox Series X, but no mention of Xbox Series S.
"We’re thrilled to finally announce that METRO 2039 is set to launch on all platforms on February 4th 2027! In addition, we can confirm that a 60FPS Performance Mode with ray tracing support will be available at launch for the Xbox Series X™, PlayStation® 5 and PlayStation® 5 Pro consoles."
It's still early days between now and February next year, and the devs have said they'll "share much more on console specs" later down the line.
As it stands, METRO 2039 will release on Xbox in February alongside Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, and first-party heavy-hitter Fable. It's going to be a big ask vying for people's attention amongst the crowd, but judging by the new trailer, it looks like it might stand a good chance.
We'll leave you with an official description and some stills to ogle over.
METRO 2039 is the next landmark FPS from acclaimed storytellers, 4A Games. Journey into the dark heart of post-apocalyptic Moscow in a harrowing conflict for the very soul of the Metro.
