As summer winds down, so does a special series of announcements from PlayStation Plus, quietly bringing an iconic era to its end. Indeed, while it's hard to keep up with everything going on with PlayStation, PS5 consoles, and new game additions to PS Plus, it's easy to benefit from it. Case in point: the games are there whenever players are ready for them, at least for higher tiers.
At the start of June, PlayStation held a State of Play where it announced five new PS Plus games in advance. Those included the day-one addition of Big Walk, the day-one addition of RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Gitaroo Man, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. This way, fans knew at least one game coming to the service pretty much every month from June through September, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds was the last item on that list.

Repeating this pattern, though, PlayStation held a State of Play at the start of September that confirmed some upcoming PS Plus games. Mega Man X Command Mission recently joined as part of the recent PS Plus wave, but the co-op game Mycopunk is still confirmed for PS Plus Extra, while Dino Crisis 2 and Ratchet & Clank are confirmed for PS Plus Premium. Unfortunately, there's one key difference between the June and September State of Play Announcements.
June outlined exactly when most, if not every, PS Plus announcement would be added, but the September announcements did not. Mycopunk does not have a release date, just a release window for October, so fans do not know when that is coming to PS Plus Extra yet. October 13 seems likely based on PS Plus' typical patterns, but PS Plus has experimented with its patterns. Meanwhile, there's no indication whatsoever of when Ratchet & Clank and Dino Crisis 2 will hit PS Plus Premium.
In many ways, this is the end of the June era and the dawn of the September era. Unfortunately, the June era clears September. Not only did it provide more information on every game coming to the PS Plus game catalog, but it also featured 5 games compared to September's 4. Perhaps at the end of the year or the start of next, PS Plus will keep rolling out these pre-announcements, as it's a nice way to bring a little extra attention to these upcoming PS Plus games.
