Among the new generation of shonen, Black Clover was one of the most sensational series to grace Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump. Its creator, Yuki Tabata, ended the story rather abruptly on May 1st, 2026, with the release of the final batch of chapters after a long run. Luckily for all of us fans, Yuki Tabata returned recently to give us brand new lore pertaining to the world on August 4, 2026, when Perfect Grimoire, the final guidebook of the franchise, was released.
As expected of any guidebook, we got to see a full breakdown of many characters and their abilities. Tabata also gave us a ton of exciting new information about the two main characters of this series — Asta and Yuno. In a plethora of information, this guidebook reveals their most overpowered abilities. For Asta, the Demon Slasher Infinite Slash Equinox was confirmed to bypass time and space itself and cut through anything. For Yuno, Never Never Land, or his amped-up version through anti-magic, Black Never Land, was shown to grant him complete dominion over a mana zone.
Black Clover went through some hurdles over the last few years of its publication. The series was officially moved out from Weekly Shonen Jump on August 21, 2023, and instead switched over to the seasonal magazine Jump GIGA on December 25, 2023. This was all due to the creator Yuki Tabata’s health issues. While we were all glad to see Tabata's work schedule improve, it also meant the story was slowed down drastically. Yuki Tabata eventually ended the story in Jump GIGA Spring Edition on May 1, 2026, with the last batch of chapters. Because of his health issues and burnout that came with a decade-long publication, a lot was left to be desired in this story.
This is precisely where the Perfect Grimoire guidebook, which was officially released on August 4, 2026, fills in. We were all delighted to know that Perfect Grimoire would give us new character information, as well as lore reveals from Yuki Tabata. As expected, Tabata gave us the full character sheets of Asta and Yuno in this final release, and they broke down everything about these two characters: their journey, their background stories, and a full breakdown of their magic and powers. All of Asta and Yuno's powerful abilities seen through the final arcs were also explored, and it gives us a big idea of what their strongest powers were at the end of the story.
Asta is the protagonist of Black Clover. He was introduced to us in Black Clover chapter 1 from Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #12, released in 2015. Upon his introduction, we were immediately made aware of the fact that he was born with no mana in a world where almost anyone could use magic. This left him powerless for the majority of his early life, which led him to focus on physical training instead. In Black Clover chapter 2, Asta went on to acquire a new power, which changed his life and the fate of the world. He officially awakened the power of anti-magic through the Devilish Five-Clover Grimoire that chose him. This power was one that only Asta could use through his miraculous birth.
Anti-magic, as the name implies, is the nemesis of all mana-based powers. It allows Asta to cancel out magical abilities. This, by itself, is overpowered, but to make use of anti-magic to its full potential, Asta needed an anti-magic weapon. The very best he acquired through Black Clover is his Demon Slasher Katana, a sword that previously belonged to Yami but was buffed with anti-magic after falling into Asta's possession. With the Demon Slasher Sword, we saw the birth of Asta's strongest ability of all time — Demon Slasher Infinite Slash Equinox.
The Perfect Grimoire guidebook explains this ability as a stronger version of Demon Slasher Infinite Slash and was seen used throughout Black Clover's Final Arc. It was always clear to see in Black Clover that this ability was strong. However, new context was given through the Perfect Grimoire guidebook, which upscales it significantly in power. It was specifically stated by Yuki Tabata that attacks launched with Demon Slasher are able to cut anything Asta chooses through the sword’s own innate ability. Tabata also went on to state that this slash is unaffected by time or space. In other words, when this attack is launched by Asta, it does not slow down before hitting its target, and it can hit the target anywhere. This makes the attack almost impossible to dodge, and once it connects, it can cut anything. It is implied that through this attack, Asta was able to cut Lucius' Soul, cementing it as the very strongest and the pinnacle of Anti-Magic.
