Xbox CEO Asha Sharma provided an update on Microsoft's next-generation console, codenamed Project Helix, calling it a "family of devices." Although Sharma did not elaborate on what kind of devices Xbox's Project Helix will entail, it seems that Microsoft is looking to expand the Xbox platform across multiple devices in the next generation of hardware. Sharma also noted that Xbox is not ready to share further details on Project Helix at this time.
Project Helix was officially announced as the next generation of Xbox back in March 2026 as a hybrid of both Xbox and PC. In the time since this reveal, estimates have put the price of Project Helix around $1,000 due to the rising production costs for gaming hardware. Right now, the next-gen Xbox hardware is reportedly targeting a Holiday 2027 launch, but a firm release date has not been confirmed.
In an interview with BBC News, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma shared new details about the future of the brand and Xbox's next-generation console, Project Helix. When asked if the upcoming Project Helix will be a disc-less console, following in the footsteps of Sony and the end of physical disc production for PlayStation in 2028, Sharma responded:
"So, we're not sharing more on Helix...But we've been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Helix, and we'll share more soon."
While it's unclear what constitutes a family of devices in the case of Project Helix, Xbox fans can expect the next generation of hardware to feature multiple devices bearing the Xbox brand. Sharma goes on to reveal that Project Helix is emphasizing a push for affordability without compromising performance during the ongoing RAM crisis that has been driving up the prices of gaming hardware over the past year.

With Project Helix said to be a way to play both Xbox and PC games as a hybrid platform, a family of devices could mean that Helix is combining Xbox's handheld PC gaming devices like the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X with a traditional gaming console to make the transition from gaming at home to on the go more seamless, similar to the Nintendo Switch 2. However, it could be as simple as a disc-less version of Helix offered alongside a version with a disc drive included, similar to the current Xbox Series X and Series S hardware.
