The Witcher 3's Songs of the Past DLC Adds New Romance Option

The Witcher 3's Songs of the Past DLC Adds New Romance Option

Following the official first look trailer for The Witcher 3's Songs of the Past DLC at Gamescom Opening Night Live, developer CD Projekt Red hosted some special demos on the show floor, where it was all but officially confirmed that new character Lilla is a romance option. Fans have been waiting to see Songs of the Past properly for several weeks now, and it seems that The Witcher 3 is not disappointing.

The new region in The Witcher 3's Songs of the Past is Letten, which CDPR describes as a land "rich in rural tradition and folklore, and its people enjoy a fulfilling life of bountiful harvests and lavish festivals." Of course, Letten isn't all pretty fields and pretty women, as Geralt must face never-before-seen foes as he confronts a long-dormant evil. With The Witcher 3 serving as a bridge to The Witcher 4, it'll be interesting to see if this long-dormant evil sets up the story for the 2028 game, or if the story of this DLC can be more easily dismissed than that.

It stands to reason that Geralt is in Letten for the beloved bard Dandelion, and it seems Geralt will meet a woman named Lilla who is Dandelion's cousin. To little surprise, Lilla can be a romance interest for Geralt, it would seem, based on a recent Gamescom demonstration. Eurogamer reports that, during its preview of the Songs of the Past DLC, it noticed how Geralt had special interaction options for Lilla and so asked devs if she was a romance interest. The response was not outright confirmation, but it's hard to imagine dodging the question with "We want players to experience this on their own. We don't want to spoil anything," as at least implied confirmation that love can soar there.

Of course, love could be a strong word. As a DLC character, she could amount to nothing more than a fling for Geralt instead of a serious romance option in The Witcher 3, or perhaps she is the true long-dormant evil of Letten. Regardless, CDPR officially describes her as "intelligent, adventurous, and a little bit rebellious," which makes her a perfect representation of Letten. It remains to be seen if CDPR shows off any more of Songs of the Past, Letten, or Lilla anytime soon, but given that this Witcher 3 DLC hits in 2027, it stands to reason that fans may not hear more about it until The Game Awards, if at all this year.

The good news is that The Witcher 3 will remain relevant for the rest of 2026. Joining the plethora of video game releases in September 2026 is The Witcher 3 Remastered, letting fans ignore every other game and putting them back on The Continent for scores, if not hundreds, more hours. It was also confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2 for those who prefer it on the Big N's hardware.
