Playground Games' upcoming Xbox Game Pass title Fable made an appearance at Gamescom this year, with an 18-minute trailer. During a Q&A panel attended by the folks at Polygon, the team has revealed how long it'll take to finish off the main quest, as well as other details, in its gorgeous-looking RPG.
According to Will Kennedy, associate game director at Playground Games, Fable's mainline quest will "have around 15-20 hours" of gameplay, adding another "15-20 hours of side and open-world exploration content" too.
"We have around 15-20 hours of mainline quest gameplay, we have around 15-20 of side and open-world exploration content gameplay...And then, of course, the life systems are limitless, so you can play them for as long as you want."
We reckon that sounds like a rather healthy runtime. RPGs can, and often do, get criticised for their enormous scale and quest bloat. Personally, we think 20 hours is the perfect landing spot for an RPG, as long as there's optional bits and bobs to get on with.
It's worth pointing out that Fable 2027 will feature the longest main quest in the series yet, assuming the estimated runtime is accurate. According to HowLongToBeat, the main quest in Fable (2004), Fable II, and Fable III takes roughly 12-14 hours to complete.
Fable will join Xbox Game Pass when it launches on February 23, 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere Support. We'll leave you with some screenshots to oogle at!
