Final Fantasy 7 Revelation game director Naoki Hamaguchi stated during a recent panel that he wanted the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga to continue beyond the current game trilogy as a way to pass it along to future generations. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is arguably one of the most anticipated games releasing in 2027.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was first unveiled during Summer Game Fest 2026, as Hamaguchi shared a glimpse of what fans can expect in the climactic finale of the FF7 Remake saga. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's combat system will include new FITS based on some iconic Jobs from the Final Fantasy series to offer new ways that players can customize their favorite characters. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will launch on April 8 on all current-gen platforms simultaneously. Pre-orders for FF7 Revelation are now available on the Square Enix Store and other storefronts.
Although the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series has seen some spin-off characters return to the story, Square Enix stated it may not be done with the saga yet. At PAX West 2026 in Seattle, Hamaguchi and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation battle director Teruki Endo hosted an hour-long panel called "From Reunion to Resolve: Designing the FF7 Remake Trilogy." Hamaguchi said that Square Enix wanted to expand the future of Final Fantasy 7 and move it to becoming an IP that will continue to evolve over time. Hamaguchi also added that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was made with the intention of re-telling the story and themes of Final Fantasy 7 for new generations to discover and to tailor these experiences to modern times.
However, Hamaguchi did not state what the evolution of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series would precisely entail. As part of the ongoing story of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake game trilogy, Square Enix has also used spin-off titles like Crisis Core Reunion and Ever Crisis as ways to tell the backstories of popular characters, such as Sephiroth and Zack Fair. Though Crisis Core Reunion was released in late 2022, other games in the Final Fantasy 7 compilation have not been ported to modern platforms as of this writing.

During the panel, Hamaguchi and Endo also shared more details about Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's battle system, including how some FITS tie into each character's established skill sets. Using Vincent Valentine as one example, Hamaguchi and Endo stated that equipping him with a Summoner outfit would allow him to use his Galian Beast form to create coordinated attacks with the Ifrit summon. Given that Vincent and Cid will finally be playable in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, time will tell how players utilize them in battle.
Since titles such as Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7 take place after the conclusion of the original Final Fantasy 7, Square Enix has some options for how it can shape the future of the FF7 Remake series. It remains to be seen if other Final Fantasy 7 spin-offs will receive modern ports or if new games altogether will be made following the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
